Why Coaching?
You know what to do. You just don't know how to stay accountable.
You need a sanity check. But the right people don't have time for you.
Your friends and family want to help. But they don't know how.
Other people seem so self-assured. You don't understand how they do it.
Tara Rhoades
Former Biglaw Partner
I'm an attorney-turned-coach with 8+ years of Biglaw experience. I spent my legal career in New York City and am now located near Dallas, Texas.
After graduating from Yale Law School in 2014, I spent 4 years as a Tax Associate at Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP. In 2018, I joined the New York Tax Department of Kirkland & Ellis LLP and was promoted to Partner in 2020.
Having discovered my true passion in mentorship, I left legal practice to found my coaching endeavor, The Sanity Plea.

Testimonials
Tara is one of the most supportive and insightful mentors I have had while working in big law. She is an excellent listener, always providing highly tailored and practical advice, and overall has been an invaluable resource when it comes to demystifying the legal profession. I continue to seek her advice and couldn’t recommend her more!

When Tara says that she understands where you're coming from, it is an understatement. Not only has she been through it all (law school, big law, and the learning curve that comes with both), she has also reflected deeply on her experiences and life choices. That makes her an excellent mentor because she understands how firms work and where you fit in as a junior associate. If you need help navigating work, becoming a better associate, or even if you would like to talk to an expert in her field, Tara is the person to reach out to.

Tara was my mentor when I was a newly hired associate in big law. She would proactively meet with me every month to check in on my development and general wellbeing at the firm. Tara was always a great listener and very thoughtful in any advice she gave me. I felt like I could be open and honest with her and received great feedback from her on meeting my goals. I felt more confident in myself and in my career thanks to her.
